Ouniū: “Authenticity, quality, and perseverance eventually stand out”

Forged in the haze of afterparties and underground reverie, Ouniū is the collaborative alias of long-time friends and DJs Fac3less and hobta. Based between Athens and Berlin, the duo channel over 15 years of shared experience into fluid, genre-defying sets rooted in techno, dub, acid house, and downtempo.

With a sound that reflects the soul of the underground, Ouniū transforms dancefloors into liminal spaces. Their long-form DJ sets — often extending into the early morning hours — blur boundaries and invite deep, introspective journeys, where hypnotic grooves meet spontaneous energy.

Fresh off their contribution to the EG Podcast Series — their first official mix as Ouniū — the duo opens up about their artistic vision, creative process, and why they believe intention and connection are more essential than ever in electronic music.

Creating Atmospheres, Not Just Sets

In their debut podcast mix, the duo crafts a meditative listening experience: “We designed it for moments like commuting, working, or slow Sunday afternoons,” they say. Featuring an atmospheric intro by a friend, the set weaves together dub gems, downtempo grooves, and slowed-down club tracks — including a long-cherished Mihai Popoviciu remix — all culminating in a Rej track themed around magic.

“We slowed down faster tracks to bring out their depth. It’s not about genres — it’s about a journey,” they explain.

How Ouniū Was Born

What began as spontaneous back-to-back DJ sets at afterparties quickly turned into something more. The synergy was undeniable. “A friend kept saying ‘Who knew?’ while we played. That became ‘Ouniū’ — and it just stuck.”

From those lighthearted origins, the project evolved into a deeply intentional collaboration. Every track they play is mutually approved, creating a playful, but carefully curated selection. While Spyros (Fac3less) tends to open their sets with deeper sounds, Adrien (hobta) often closes with intensity and flair — forming a well-balanced sonic narrative.

Why Ouniū Exists

As individuals, the two had diverging creative urges — one towards slower, hypnotic festival sounds, the other towards faster, psychedelic techno. Ouniū became the space to explore both extremes, inspired by intense club experiences at venues like Berghain and Fusion Festival.

“There’s too much content out there. With Ouniū, we want to bring preciousness and purpose back to DJing.”

Influence, Aesthetics, and the Berlin Connection

Their artistic vision goes beyond music. Berlin’s raw, brutalist energy — especially venues like Mahalla — shapes their visual and sonic identity. “It’s about scale, depth, and contrast,” they note.

Joy, curiosity, and playfulness remain at the heart of their project. “We love when tracks surprise us — when they’re deep, intense, but somehow still playful.”

Looking Ahead: Releases, Gigs, and More

With several original releases on the way and upcoming gigs at favorite Berlin spaces, Ouniū is just getting started. “Our goal is to create timeless music that resonates with us first — and hopefully with listeners too.”

In a saturated music industry, they hold onto one core belief:
“Authenticity, quality, and perseverance eventually stand out.”
