Carl Cox has officially released his acclaimed remix of Vikthor and Pianoalani’s ‘Legacy’, turning one of the defining sunrise moments from his 2026 Ibiza residency into his latest single via Intec.
What began as a memorable sunrise moment in Ibiza has now become the latest official release from one of techno’s most enduring figures.
Carl Cox has unveiled his remix of Vikthor and Pianoalani’s ‘Legacy’, a track that quickly became a fan favorite during his second consecutive summer residency at UNVRS Ibiza. The remix is now available across streaming platforms through Intec, the influential label founded by Cox in 1998.
Carl Cox Turns an Ibiza Sunrise Moment Into a New Release
Throughout the 2026 Ibiza season, Cox has been bringing his signature energy to UNVRS, with his take on ‘Legacy’ emerging as one of the most memorable moments of his sets.
Played during the early hours of Monday mornings, the track found a natural home in Ibiza’s sunrise atmosphere. Its melodic foundation and emotional character provided a fitting soundtrack as daylight arrived over San Rafael, while Cox’s rework added the drive and intensity associated with his dancefloor-focused sound.
The original collaboration between Vikthor and Pianoalani had already resonated with Ibiza audiences before Cox decided to reinterpret it. Rather than completely transforming the composition, the techno veteran has retained the essence of the original while expanding its energy for the club.
A Meeting Point Between Melodic Techno, Progressive House and Trance
Cox’s remix builds around the original melody, gradually introducing additional momentum and a more powerful club-focused framework.
The result sits comfortably between melodic techno, progressive house and trance, highlighting Cox’s ability to evolve a familiar composition without stripping away the emotion that made it connect with listeners in the first place.
“The original already had a feeling that people connected with, particularly in those sunrise moments,” Cox explained. “The challenge was keeping that emotion while giving the record enough power and movement to work in my own sets.”
That balance is central to the remix. Rather than relying solely on heavier production, Cox allows the melody to remain at the heart of the track, making the release equally suited to an emotional sunrise set and a larger dancefloor environment.
‘Legacy’ Arrives Through Carl Cox’s Intec
The release also marks another chapter for Intec, the record label Cox established in 1998.
After an extended hiatus that began in 2020, the label returned to activity last year, once again providing Cox with a platform for his own productions as well as music connected to the wider electronic scene.
Bringing ‘Legacy’ to Intec therefore feels particularly fitting. The label has long been associated with Cox’s commitment to techno and forward-thinking electronic music, while the new remix reflects the broader spectrum of sounds that has increasingly appeared in his sets.
Carl Cox Continues His Ibiza Legacy
The release arrives during another significant Ibiza chapter for Cox.
His 2026 residency at UNVRS marks his second consecutive season at the venue, continuing a relationship with the island that has become inseparable from his career. From underground clubs to some of the world’s largest electronic music stages, Cox has spent decades helping shape the culture surrounding techno and dance music.
The ‘Legacy’ remix captures another side of that legacy: the ability to create moments that exist beyond the traditional club environment.
What began as a track played during an Ibiza sunrise has now been preserved as an official release, allowing listeners around the world to experience a piece of Cox’s 2026 residency.
Carl Cox’s remix of ‘Legacy’ by Vikthor and Pianoalani is out now via Intec and available on major streaming platforms.
